Summary
Clearing an outside drain, entrance or gully, can be messy!
Use the following information to help you:
1 Clearing a grid
2 Clearing a blockage
Tools
Bucket, gloves, old tin can, large impervious
plastic bag.
Step 1 - Clearing a grid
Often a blockage is caused by debris clogged in the
grid itself. Use a stick or a rake to clear away the
leaves and debris from the grid. This can be composted.
Step 2 - Clearing a blockage
The drain entrances you can see near your house are
giant versions of the waste traps under your sink.
If the drain is still blocked, you will need to clear
the blockage in the gully itself. Use an old tin can to
empty some of the water out. Use a suitable glove or
take a large plastic bag with no holes in it to cover
your arm and scoop the debris out of the drain.
Always wash thoroughly before and after.
